“Nuts” is a chapter in my book (actually a chapter in my life) that people find hilarious and horrifying.
All my life I’ve used humor to cover my scars. Whether they be self inflicted or as in the case of “nuts”, scars caused by the actions of others.
As I step back I see not only the scars I carry from the physical abuse of bullies but the emotional and verbal abuse as well.
While we might mask this as “my opinion” or “I’m telling you this in love…” what we many times fail to think about is “how would I receive this if it were said to me?”
I’m reminded of how Jesus said, “it all boils down to this…” Wow, when “God with us” makes a leading statement like that, it really sets the tone for what follows!
And what follows is this “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind. And the second is this, love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.”
That is a live that I simply can’t fathom, but in light of my scars…I strive daily to live out a love like that!
Our hurts can teach us so much. Most notable, how not to treat others.

Barry, I’m so glad that we got to spend time together! As much as I think I’ll remember the car chase, I think what I’ll remember more is the story of your aorta rupturing and tearing the valve from your heart…and you are still here because of the Hand of God!!!
