There will be storms in life. That’s just an unfortunate truth. Kaci & I have been through our fair share and several we didn’t think we would survive.

And to be completely vulnerable, a few really tough storms have been very recent.

Have you been there? Maybe you are there right now?

Today you may be thinking to yourself that you just can’t imagine life going on. That you don’t even know how to take that next step forward.

You’re never really alone

In the process of writing “Whisper” I was sitting in our friends living room in Bryant, Arkansas with co-writer Patrick Steele. Our mutual friend, Marshall, had just stopped by to visit Kaci and I as we were passing through.

We played “Whisper” for Marshal and simply said, “What does the song say to you?”

To our surprise, this mountain of a man breaks down weeping. He expressed how he has felt so alone, even in a crowded room. How he feels worthless and hopeless in life. Yet when the pre-chorus and chorus hit his ears and sank into his soul he felt a renewed sense of hope, that he’s really never alone.

The inspiration of the two verses of “Whisper”.

In the first verse it starts where it starts for all of us, “night falls on this broken heart of mine”. We’ve all had our hearts broken to varying degrees to the end that we just can’t imagine how we are going to make it through this day, let alone the next.

Then the reminder in the pre-chorus and chorus that we are never alone and that if we can just “be still” and quiet our soul we can hear God speaking to us.

In the second verse I get a little poetic, “Joy breaks…”. Because “Whisper” draws heavily on imagery from creation, I thought I would take some artistic liberty with the phrase “Day breaks”.

Though the night is sometimes very dark and scary we know and trust that “day break” is coming and that the dark night will soon recede to the light.

In the same way, we can trust that no matter how dark and stormy this part of life seems to be, joy WILL break.

I want to encourage you today to be still, to listen to that still small voice of God. Find comfort and rest in Him…He loves us immensely and both Kaci & I can assure you that through His love, “Joy breaks…I can make it through the day”

Love y’all 😊❤️
